ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP
This is an exciting time for sport and physical activity in schools and communities across the district. From September 2006 a School Sports Partnership for Welwyn and Hatfield will be in place. The main aim for the partnership is to develop and improve Physical Education, School Sport and Club Links within 43 schools.
Sir Frederic Osborn School are delighted to host the Welwyn Hatfield School Sport Partnership. They are the Hub Site and provide the necessities for the work of the Partnership Development Manager, (Jo Higson) The work includes managing the whole partnership, auditing, development planning and access to funding for projects.

Each Secondary and Primary School within the School Sport Partnership has a nominated person responsible for implementing the Development Plan within their school. In Secondary Schools a PE teacher (School Sports Co-ordinator) is released for 2 days a week to develop Sport and Physical Activity within their own school and within their family of schools. (see diagram). In Primary Schools a Primary Link Teacher is given time to develop and lead Sport and Physical Activity within their school.
All the work we do as a Partnership is driven by the Government’s PSA target of ‘75% of children aged 5-16 years, achieving at least 2 hours of High Quality PE and school Sport per week within and beyond the curriculum’.
To achieve this target we have to work as a community. Schools cannot be the only provider for Sport and Physical Activity. That’s why the programme has a strong emphasis on developing school-club links, training and coaching awards and volunteers. Therefore with the strong development and commitment of the Welwyn and Hatfield community as a Partnership we should be aiming for ALL children receiving at least 2 hours of High Quality curriculum Sport and Physical Activity and an additional 1-2 hours extra-curricular or community sport every week.
If you have any ideas or thoughts for the development of the partnership then please contact me at Sir Frederic Osborn School or on PDM@welhatsports.org.uk
Kind Regards
Jo Higson
