WHSPAA membership is totally free and the benefits are substancial. WHSPAA members are able to apply for WHSPAA club grants, access to club forums, receive the most up to date information from Sport England on funding to club marketing and management. You also will have access to the council's Youth and Sport Partnership Manager who can help advise you on all sports development issues as well as being able to signpost you in the right direction if its a service the council doesn't run. Club Standards
National Governing Body Affiliation
Clubs that affiliate to their national governing body (NGB) of sport meet basic standards of quality of provision such as providing insurance in case of injury. They register annuallly and have regular input from their NGB on how to run sport in their club. There are approximatley 230 recognised National Governing Bodies of Sport in England: for the complete list on the Sport England website, click here.
Club Accreditation
and Clubmark
NGB-affiliated clubs that have shown to Sport England that they meet high standards of Management - including care of juniors, Coaching and Competition are designated as Clubmark clubs. These clubs are vetted annually and thoroughly every 3 years. As a consequence of achieving these high standards they can use the Clubmark logo on their publicity.

There are 31 sports that have Clubmark acreditation schemes many have differnt names such as 'CAPS' for Netball. For the current list and their logos click here.
If a club doesn't have Clubmark or isn't affiliated to and National Governing Body of sport and yet you are interested in joining them then you need to ask appropriate questions to satisfy that they operate in a responsible manner. For juniors, for example, it is important that coaches can show Criminal Records Bureau clearance. Does the club have access to first aid and insurance in case of an accident?
