Gobi Wins Gold in Welsh Leg of 4-Nations Disabled Badminton
|
The tournament, in Cardiff, was the first of the 4 Nations series for the new badminton season. The Welsh leg held at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff, is where it all started for me 3 years ago so it’s been a good tournament to use as a marker for my progress...
Having missed out on the tournament last year due to the World Championships in South Korea, it was nice to return back to Wales and regain the Men’s Singles Title there. The win was my 9th consecutive 4 Nations Singles Title and came courtesy of a 21-10, 21-11 victory in the Final against a much improved David Crossman (England).
The Mixed Doubles Final saw Laura-Lee Jenkins (Northern Ireland) and I come up against the favourites and winners from the English Leg in Manchester, Morag Johnson (Scotland) and Denny Vettom (England). We both put in a great performance in the final but were narrowly defeated 18-21, 21-23.
All in all a successful tournament although I was a bit rusty due to lack of match practice in the close season. Next up is the Irish Leg in Dublin, and also the Israeli International both in November. However my attendance to those is uncertain due to lack of funding.
Thanks as always to Herts Sports Village, Stevenage Community Trust, Betfair, Stevenage Grange Rotary Club, Victor Sport and of course my coach Kelly Matthews. And not forgetting my family and friends whose support has been invaluable.
In the meantime you can continue to follow my progress through my blogs on the Comet Newspaper website, click here.
Feel free to get in touch, or post any comments!
Kind regards
